International Sales & Distribution

Connecting Independent Films with Global Audiences

At Gemini Entertainment, we specialize in bringing independent films to the international marketplace. Whether you’re an emerging filmmaker with your first feature or a rights holder with a library of titles, we help bridge the gap between your content and the global platforms, broadcasters, and distributors looking to acquire it.

International distribution is both an art and a science—and we’ve built our business around doing it right.

How It Works

International sales typically involve licensing a film’s rights to distributors on a territory-by-territory basis. A film might sell to one company in France for theatrical and television rights, another in South Korea for streaming, and yet another in Latin America for DVD and Blu-ray. Each deal is separately negotiated, taking into account factors like language dubbing, censorship laws, format preferences, and release strategy.

At Gemini, we work directly with foreign buyers, attend major global film markets, and maintain relationships with trusted acquisition partners around the world. We specialize in negotiating clear, market-tested deals that serve the long-term interests of our filmmakers.

A Track Record Built on Experience

Our founder and CEO, Jeremy Lunt, brings years of hands-on experience to this side of the business. Before launching Gemini Entertainment, Jeremy worked as a sales agent for a respected independent film agency in Hollywood, where he brokered the international sale of films across dozens of territories. He has particular expertise in Asian markets, where he has successfully placed everything from art house dramas to genre thrillers with buyers in major territories such as Japan and mainland China.

His experience gives Gemini a distinct edge: we understand what international buyers are looking for, how to package and present a film effectively, and how to maximize revenue through multi-platform, multi-region deals.

What we offer

Whether we represent your film exclusively for international sales or as part of a broader distribution strategy, Gemini Entertainment provides:

Why International Matters

For many independent films, international sales can represent the majority of total revenue. With the right strategy, a film that struggles to find traction domestically can thrive abroad—especially in markets where genre preferences, cultural trends, or content shortages create demand for fresh material.

We’re here to help you tap into that opportunity.

The Distribution Process

In the early days of the film business, distribution was a relatively simple process. Whether the producer was part of a major studio or an upstart independent, the model was largely the same: films were booked into theaters and played for as long as audiences showed up. Once that run ended, the prints were shelved, rarely seeing the light of day except during occasional reissues.

Then came television.

The rise of commercial broadcasting in the 1940s added a second “window” to the life of a film—one that kept older titles in circulation long after their theatrical run. Over the decades, each new format—broadcast TV, then cable, VHS, DVD, and pay-per-view—added another layer to the distribution ecosystem.

While the mediums evolved, the process remained mostly linear: theatrical first, followed by home video, television, and finally library licensing. Distribution was predictable, orderly, and often rigid.

But then digital technology changed everything.

Today, many independent films never see the inside of a theater—and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Theatrical releases, when they happen, are often tightly targeted or used strategically to support a simultaneous or near-simultaneous digital launch. Home video, once the cornerstone of long-term revenue, now caters largely to collectors. Meanwhile, broadcasters and streamers have narrowed their acquisition slates, focusing on select genres or high-profile content.

To many filmmakers, the modern distribution ecosystem can feel like the Wild West— unpredictable, fast-changing, and often filled with risk. This distribution landscape may be overwhelming, but that frontier-like energy is also what makes it exciting. In many ways, today’s environment mirrors the chaotic early days of cinema at the turn of the twentieth century, when the rules were still being written and most producers had to make it up as they went along.

The tools may be different, but the spirit of experimentation—and the opportunity it brings—remains the same.

There Is No Single Right Way—But There Are Plenty of Wrong Ones

At Gemini Entertainment, we understand that successful distribution is no longer about following a rigid playbook. It’s about strategy. Timing. Audience. Format. Territory. It’s about tailoring the right release path for your film, not someone else’s.

Some projects benefit from a theatrical run to build buzz or qualify for awards. Others might perform better going straight to digital platforms—whether transactional (TVOD), subscription-based (SVOD), or ad-supported (AVOD). Niche titles might find their audience through physical media, curated channels, or overseas licensing.

For cult films and genre content, success often lies in unexpected places: foreign-language dubs, YouTube monetization, or specialty Blu-ray collectors. We work across all of these formats. And more importantly, we know how to combine them.Every film is different—and so is every distribution plan we craft. Whether you’re trying to maximize revenue, build a brand, reach a specific demographic, or simply get your work seen, we can help you navigate the ever-shifting landscape with experience, agility, and integrity.

Steps To Distribution

If you’ve submitted your film to Gemini Entertainment, here’s what you can expect as we move forward:

Leveraging New Practices

Our experience in distribution has taught us a fundamental truth: adaptability is everything. The ability to embrace new technologies and evolving market practices isn’t just a competitive advantage—it’s essential for survival. And historically, it’s been the independent players who have led the way.

While major studios enjoy vast resources, they’re often constrained by legacy obligations: long-term guild agreements, rigid licensing arrangements, and the constant pressure to protect shareholder value. Every decision is subject to layers of scrutiny, slowing innovation to a crawl.

Independents, by contrast, have always been more agile. When television began airing movies in the 1940s, it wasn’t studio blockbusters that filled the airwaves—it was titles from Hollywood’s “Poverty Row” producers. The VHS boom of the 1980s began not with studio hits, but with low-budget indie fare. And when Netflix first launched its streaming platform, it was independent films that dominated the catalog while major studios held back, unsure of how the digital future would unfold.

At Gemini Entertainment, we embrace this spirit of independence. We actively seek out new distribution models, from emerging digital platforms to alternative revenue streams. Because in today’s media landscape, the winners aren’t the ones with the biggest war chests—they’re the ones who move first, adapt fast, and stay open to what’s next.

How We Apply This in Practice

At Gemini Entertainment, we don’t just talk about innovation—we build our business around it. Here are a few of the ways we actively leverage emerging tools and technologies to keep our films visible, accessible, and profitable:
